Job Summary

The Team
The East Fraser Adoption team consists of one (1) Team Leader and six (6) Adoption Workers. Three (3) Adoption Workers are located in Abbotsford and the remaining three (3) Adoption Workers are located in Chilliwack. This team provides service to the communities of Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Hope, and Agassiz. This team is a dedicated group of professionals who work with adoptive parents during their adoption journey. The process begins with the completion of a Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) Home Study and supporting the adoptive parents through matching and transition. After a child or youth is placed for adoption, the Adoption Worker monitors the child or youth's placement and completes the adoption court package. This team works closely with the Guardianship and Permanency Teams as well as with Resource Workers and foster parents.

The Role
As a Team Leader, you'll guide and support staff in their daily work, ensuring that we follow best practices for adoption and permanency planning services for children and youth in continuing care. You'll be directly responsible for the quality of our services, setting and monitoring practice standards to align with government and ministry guidelines. You'll also provide clear guidance to staff in Abbotsford and Chilliwack, helping them navigate and adhere to relevant laws and procedures. Your leadership will play a crucial role in achieving positive outcomes for the children, youth, and families we serve, with a strong focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements


Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements
1. Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • At least 2 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.


2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree witha Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience and at least 2 years of job-specific work experience OR At least 3 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.


Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Additional Experience Requirements:
  • AD2 delegation under the Adoption Act.


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Eligible for C4 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) training and experience completing SAFE home assessments.
  • SAFE training for supervisors and experience supervising the completion of home studies.
  • Completed the MCFD Permanency training and/or the weeks 2 and 3 of Adoption Delegation Training.
  • One (1) or more months' experience supervising staff, in a unionized environment.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

This is a temporary opportunity until 06/30/2025. This position may be extended or become permanent. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
