This is a full-time position 40 hours per week, based at both our Maple Ridge and Langley WorkBC offices.

The Role
The Essential Skills Coach will deliver online and in person essential and foundational skills instruction to participants of the WorkBC program to assess and develop their essential skills in preparation for further education and training or occupation specific employment.

Responsibilities

Assessment:
    •Invigilate and interpret essential skills assessments (500 point IALS scale)



Curriculum:
Adapt existing Essential Skills materials into a curriculum appropriate for the delivery of a 40 hour program for WorkBC Clients.

Instruction/Facilitation:
Facilitate learning to build essential and foundational skills and incorporate authentic documents to assist participants to:
    •Prepare for technical training using Blackboard •Understand occupation specific language •Facilitate individual and group based skills development (reading, numeracy, writing, digital, problem solving, communications, social-emotional skills - adaptability, collaboration, creativity and innovation) •Develop the skills needed for success at work (time management, organizational skills, team work) •Evaluate learners at regular intervals and provide feedback;


    Individual Coaching:
      •Support individual learners to develop the skills needed for success in training and occupation specific employment; •Meet with clients to debrief ES assessments, conduct informal assessment and develop customized individual learning plans as needed; •Assign self-directed learning modules and monitor progress; •Monitor client progress and adjust individual learning plans when needed.


Administration:

    •Maintain participant progress records adhering to privacy requirements; •Participate in team meetings; •Complete reports and paperwork as required; •Contribute to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
    •Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Education) and minimum 2 years' experience delivering instruction to low skilled adult learners or equivalent combination of education, training and experience; •Knowledge of construct approach to learning ( ESPT Certificate an asset); •Familiarity with the Skills for Success Model formally Essential & Employability Skills resources and tools an asset; •Demonstrated instructional experience with multi barriered learners; •Proficient with online learning tools, Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel, Zoom & Blackboard an asset; •Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check. A criminal record will not automatically result in your application for employment being denied.



Ability to:

    •conduct learning assessments and develop customized learning plans with multi-barriered adult learners; •amend materials to meet unique client needs; •work with groups of individuals with diverse learning needs; •complete and maintain confidential client files on daily, weekly and monthly basis; •use interpersonal skills to problem solve and deal with difficult situations; •create and maintain a professional workplace environment for learners; •demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in day-to-day tasks; •work independently and require little supervision.
