Job summary
Amazon is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to help pioneer the reporting framework for an emerging Transportation business. As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will own the reporting roadmap, strategy, and infrastructure for our Marketing and Sales initiatives, globally. You will partner with and understand the needs of geographically-dispersed leads. You will develop and manage a feature roadmap that contains near, medium, and long-term enhancements. You will advise the BI lead and stakeholders on the milestones and associated prioritization. Collectively, your work will enable the business to drive better business decisions, and empower stakeholders to understand their business and customers in new ways.

The Business Intelligence Engineer will have the tools for success. You will have access to (and help develop) a rich and growing dataset. You will use on AWS's growing list of data solutions including: Redshift, Athena, Sagemaker, and Redshift Spectrum. You will create visualizations using Tableau, Tableau Server, and Amazon Quicksight. You will receive support from your Business Intelligence colleagues, a team of Data Engineers, and Business Intelligence Lead.

A successful candidate will understand and anticipate stakeholder needs and think big when recommending solutions. A successful candidate will be comfortable navigating an ambiguous environment; know how to confirm and reconfirm assumptions; and be comfortable advocating for the right set of priorities. A successful candidate will contribute to the team, proactively seek and provide feedback on technical designs, and build for the long-term.

Key job responsibilities
• Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
• 3+ years analyzing and interpreting data and experience with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc.
• Experience in writing complex SQL queries
• Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
• Bachelor's degree in finance, engineering, economics, statistics, applied mathematics, data science or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience in business intelligence, analytics, statistics, data engineering, data science or related field
• Advanced knowledge of SQL
• Experience gathering and aligning business requirements across stakeholders that span job level and function
• Excellent working knowledge of large data manipulation and data mining using complex SQL.
• Inquisitive mindset, with proven problem solving ability, and a passion for big data
• Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills. Must be able to explain technical concepts and analysis clearly to a diverse audience, including senior executives, and be able to translate business objectives into actionable analyses

A day in the life
Define and manage a long-term vision to improve the customer experience and business results through creating scalable metrics, analysis, visualizations, and data-driven storytelling.
Collaborate and partner with Marketing and Sales teams to understand, anticipate, and respond to current and future needs
Lead the definition and governance of key business metrics, drive the vision and building of self-service analytic capabilities, and engineer data-driven processes that drive business value
Connect with the Amazon community of data professionals to stay current on technology trends, data tools and techniques to improve team performance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in software development languages such as ruby, python or perl
• Experience in designing and implementing custom reporting systems by managing or guiding technical teams with tools such as Tableau
• Experience using ETL and database management systems
• Experience with one or more reporting tools such as Tableau or Quicksight
• Experience conducting large scale data analysis to support business decision making
• Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
• Ability to work on a diverse team or with a diverse range of coworkers
